Queerability

Mak: Mak on the Rise

Across Rainbows Season 3 Episode 3

Welcome back to Queerability!

Today, I am absolutely thrilled to have a long time friend of mine, Mak. I met Mak years ago when he gave me my first job at a cafe and we have been friends ever since.

Mak was born in London of Scottish/Arabic descent. He grew up in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia before settling in Scotland, where he attended secondary school.

He is a self trained chef who draws on his mixed heritage and love of Mediterranean travel to inspire his cooking. He is very proud of setting up and managing a successful cafe in Brighton and his work with LGBTQ Switchboard’s Older Gays group.

Before his 40th birthday, Mak was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. He participated in an  immune system replacement therapy.  It was successful  and today, Mak now lives in rural Scotland and cooks at a seaside village cafe.

In this episode we discuss:

  • HIV
  • Chemsex
  • Cancer
